Small, good pet for beginning owner?
Stick insects, or walking sticks as they're commonly called, are easy to care for pets. They don't do much though--eat, (sleep?) reproduce, and then die. They are fun to hold and play with, just don't drop them, as they blend in well with pale colored carpet....The most common stick insect that is used as pets are the Indian stick insect, which are all females and reproduce aually. They do, however, require a living space such as a terrarium, though a jar with holes punched into the top would do fine. In the tank, bramble, ivy, privet (their food) and lettuce would be encouraged. Also, mostly only Indian stick insects eat privet, so if you get a different species don't make the mistake of feeding them privet. Also, I once had hermit , and i personally was not fond of them. They REALLY stink, and it kind of hurts when they pinch you. If that happens, rub warm warm onto their shells for them to slacken their grip. However, if you like crustaceans, hermit would be a good, easy-to-care-for pet.
