Just a thought, but...?
If you heard a piece of music, written by Mozart, being played (or at least attempting to be played) by an average Joe who has little to no experience with the piano, would you automatically ume the composer was an idiot who had no musical ability whatsoever. Now, spiritually speaking, how is this any different from hypocrisy among Christians. I am a Christian, blessed to be one (I'm sure many of you think that makes me intellectually inferior, but that's quite alright with me), and I will agree with any atheist, theist, or agnostic who points out to me that the church is full of hypocrites. It's quite inevitable. I do apologize for that. But does that make Jesus Christ of Nazareth a hypocrite any more than that terrible piano player makes Mozart a schlep? I know you'll all try to jump at me and discredit my simile: "Mozart existed, Jesus never did! He's just a myth!" I'm not here to debate the historicity of Jesus. I'm here to make a point. Hypocrisy doesn't undermine the entire faith. Jesus pointed the finger at hypocrites during his day and the Bible continues to do so now. Matthew 7:22 says that 'Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, we prophesied in your name, drove out demons in your name, and performed many miracles in your name, didn't we?' Yet Jesus tells them "I never knew you" in the next verse. He said that the path was narrow and straight. That says to me very few will live out the truth fully, and I am saying that to you Christians just as much as anyone. else.
