Can a person sue a landlord to get off a lease for..........................?

You need to check your rental agreement and the rest of the paperwork that you signed when you first rented the place...you were supposed to have done a "walk through" before taking up residency and it would have been at that time you would be able to bring up ALL of the issues and you would be able to back out of the deal no question's asked. However if you singed and did NOT do a walk through then you may not have any recourse at all, you basically signed taking the dubplex "as is". As for the cellphone and your girlfriend leaving you "holding the bag" That's something you're going to have to take up with HER, the landlord is not responsible for her dumping you.
